Former world champion and boxing analyst Timothy Bradley explained why Andre Ward could pose a serious challenge for Anthony Joshua if the two were to meet in the ring.
"Ward has been retired for a long time – and straight to Anthony Joshua? Those are big words. He probably sees something we don’t. Joshua can’t think like Andre Ward, and he doesn’t have the same toughness.
Joshua doesn’t have the legs or the knowledge to deal with Ward. Even with a powerful punch, you have to know how to land it. Even at over 200 pounds, Ward would be significantly smarter than Joshua. This is a dangerous fight.
Joshua was just stopped. It makes sense, and the fight would sell well at Wembley. Andre Ward in England – you know the British fans love him. And you know how they react when they see Joshua. It’s the perfect combination.
It’s a slightly easier opponent for a comeback. In my opinion, it makes sense," Bradley said.
Ward (32-0, 16 KOs), 41, has been retired since 2017, when he defeated Sergey Kovalev and walked away unbeaten. Recently, he stated he would return for a major clash – for example, against Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs). The American has never fought at heavyweight, with light heavyweight being his highest weight class.
