Berlanga Promises to Slap Oscar, De La Hoya Fires Back

Golden Boy Promotions head Oscar De La Hoya responded to comments made by American super middleweight (up to 76.2 kg) boxer Edgar Berlanga (22-0, 17 KOs). During a press conference with Saúl Álvarez, Berlanga said he would "slap the crap" out of De La Hoya the next time he sees him.

"Edgar Berlanga, you interrupted the press conference to mention my name. You said you're going to slap me the next time you see me.

And it’s all because I asked to see your Puerto Rican birth certificate. You’re not a real Puerto Rican. When I fought Félix Trinidad, all of Puerto Rico went to Las Vegas to support him.

Are you upset because I said you’re not a real threat to Canelo? Those are the facts, bro. Don’t lose your cool over it. You’re not fighting me. Edgar, you’re getting distracted, so shut up and focus because Canelo’s going to kick your ass this weekend. Enjoy your first and last PPV," De La Hoya said.
