The Great Terence Crawford Has Retired: Key Highlights of His Professional Career

Terence Crawford / Ready to Fight

On December 17, 38-year-old American boxer Terence Crawford announced the conclusion of his professional boxing career. One of the best, if not the best, American boxer of the new generation has departed after a historic achievement — a third undisputed championship.

Let’s recall all of Terence Crawford’s achievements in the professionals.

– World champion in five weight categories: Lightweight, Super Lightweight, Welterweight, Super Welterweight, and Super Middleweight.

Terence won the title in the Lightweight division with a victory over Ricky Burns — in 2014 he outboxed him via decision in Great Britain. After two successful defenses (Gamboa and Beltran), he moved to the next division.

In Super Lightweight, Crawford became champion as a result of a stoppage victory over Thomas Dulorme. Here he defended the belts six times, including title unifications.

Crawford won the champion belt in the Welterweight category with a stoppage victory over Jeff Horn. In this division, he defended the titles seven times, including unification.

The American obtained the title in Super Welterweight with a victory over Israil Madrimov. In this category, Crawford did not defend the belt, but immediately jumped up two weight classes — to meet Saul Alvarez.

In the fight with Canelo, Terence immediately became the undisputed world champion in the Super Middleweight division.

– Undisputed champion in three weight categories: Super Lightweight, Welterweight, and Super Middleweight. Terence became undisputed for the first time as a result of a victory over Julius Indongo — KO 3. The second time — after a victory over Errol Spence. Crawford knocked him out in the 9th round. The third time — after a victory over Saul Alvarez by decision. This fight became the last in the American’s career.

– Crawford is the second boxer, after Dingaan Thobela, who, being a world champion at Lightweight, became a world champion at Super Middleweight.

– Crawford is the second boxer, after Jermain Taylor, to win 4 major version championship titles in one fight.

– Terence Crawford beat 9 previously undefeated boxers: Brian Cummings, Andrey Klimov, Yuriorkis Gamboa, Viktor Postol, Julius Indongo, Jeff Horn, Egidijus Kavaliauskas, Errol Spence, and Israil Madrimov.

– The American defeated 12 world champions over his entire career.

– Terence Crawford ended his career at 38 years old with a record of 42 wins, 31 of them — inside the distance, and not a single defeat. 73.81% of confrontations ended in knockouts. He spent 257 rounds in the ring and left after the greatest victory of his career.
