WBO Junior Welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez reacted to the news that WBC Lightweight titleholder Shakur Stevenson is preparing to face him alongside three-time undisputed champion Terence Crawford.
“I’m the one who’s always ‘against all odds.’ I’ve been that way since 2015, when I won the U.S. Olympic Trials but didn’t get a spot on the Olympic team for the 2015 Olympics… Even Richard Commey — when I won my first world title in 2019 at 22 years old as the challenger — the odds were against me.
Those are the fights where I’ve delivered my best performances.
No, I’m not worried at all about Crawford being in Shakur’s camp. I think they’ve got some kind of plan inside their group, even with Keyshawn Davis. They all think they’re going to take over boxing as friends.
I don’t think there are friends in this sport… Whatever Crawford and Shakur want to do, Crawford won’t be fighting for Shakur. In the ring with Teofimo, it’ll be Shakur,” said Lopez.
The fight will take place on January 31 in the United States. For Shakur, it will be his debut at Junior Welterweight.
