Subriel Matias Cleared of Doping Allegations

At the 63rd WBC Congress in Bangkok, Thailand, it was officially announced that the bout between WBC champion Subriel Matias and Britain’s Dalton Smith will go ahead — despite Matias’ previously reported positive doping test.
“He is innocent, and no levels of performance-enhancing doping use were found,” said Sulaiman, adding that the WBC’s Clean Boxing Program needs updating due to the large number of supplements on the market that contain WADA-banned substances.
Ostarine is a selective androgen receptor modulator, known for its ability to increase testosterone levels and endurance. Traces were found in Matias’ system after a test on November 9, but the concentration was below the allowable threshold.
Next for Matias is a one-year probation period and further testing at his own expense ahead of the fight with Smith. Sulaiman noted they are confident the positive test was the result of contaminated supplements.
Subriel Matias (23-2, 22 KOs) vs Dalton Smith (18-0, 13 KOs) will take place on January 10 in the United States at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
