Ryan Garcia’s former trainer joins Barrios’ camp

WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios announced that Joe Goossen — Ryan Garcia’s former head coach and a Hall of Fame trainer — will coach him leading into the fight with Garcia. Barrios was previously trained by Bob Santos.

“This makes sense for me at this stage of my career. Joe and I know each other well. He commentated many of my early fights. I know his style, I know what he teaches and what he brings as a trainer.

I want to accomplish as much as possible in this sport and in this division over the next few years. Moving to Joe will help put everything together. I think we’ll have a great run working together. We can do really big things,” Barrios said.

Goossen trained Garcia in 2022–2023. Their partnership ended after Garcia’s loss to Gervonta Davis.

The fight between Mario Barrios (29-2-2, 18 KOs) and Ryan Garcia (24-2, 20 KOs) will take place on February 21.
