Rodriguez Wrests Interim WBC Title from Yafai

On 21 June at Resorts World Arena in Birmingham, United Kingdom, local Interim WBC Flyweight champion (≤ 50.8 kg) Galal Yafai (9-1, 7 KO) faced Mexico’s Francisco Rodriguez (40-6-1, 27 KO).

The contest ended with Rodriguez winning by unanimous decision. The judges’ tallies read 118-109 and 119-108 twice in favour of the Mexican. Yafai was knocked down in the 12th round.

It is the first defeat of Yafai’s professional career.
