Mexican trainer Roberto Garcia has highlighted what he sees as the key difference between reigning WBA Lightweight Champion Gervonta “Tank” Davis and five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather.
“Gervonta never gave us the fights we really wanted. He never took real challenges. He never truly pushed himself.
He didn’t give Rolly the rematch he deserved. Mayweather, when he had tough fights against Maidana and Castillo, he made the rematches to prove everyone wrong. And he did — he beat them clean.
Tank should have done the same, but he didn’t. That’s something I can criticize him for.
But at the end of the day, if you’re getting 30 or 50 million — I don’t even know how much he’s making — just to fight Jake Paul, I’d do the same,” Garcia said.
Gervonta Davis and Jake Paul will meet on November 14 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, USA, in an exhibition bout.
