Lara: “Even at my age, I still step in with the best”

42-year-old WBA middleweight champion Erislandy Lara shared his thoughts on the upcoming unification bout against WBO and IBF titleholder Zhanibek Alimkhanuly.

“The fight with Zhanibek Alimkhanuly will show the whole world that even at my age, I continue to face the best and challenge the odds.

This is a dangerous fight for both of us — we are both champions. We’re in for an outstanding bout,” Lara said.

Earlier, it was confirmed that the unification clash between Alimkhanuly and Lara will take place on December 6 in San Antonio, USA.

Erislandy Lara (31-3-3, 19 KOs) last fought in September 2024, scoring a stoppage win over Danny Garcia, after Garcia’s corner refused to continue after the ninth round.

In April, Zhanibek Alimkhanuly (17-0, 12 KOs) stopped Andaule Ngamissengue via technical knockout in the fifth round.
