33-year-old American super middleweight Thomas LaManna (39-6-1, 18 KOs) shared his thoughts after losing to fellow American Jermall Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs), 35.
“I did everything I could. The doctors are here for a reason, and they made their decision. I’m disappointed, but this is boxing. Charlo was sharper than I expected. I thought he’d come out more aggressively, but he’s a two-time world champion for a reason. He’s got a great, heavy jab, and he did what he had to do,” LaManna said.
To recap, on the night of June 1, Jermall Charlo defeated Thomas LaManna via TKO 6 — the bout was stopped after a ringside physician’s consultation prior to the start of the sixth round.
It was Charlo’s first fight since November 2023, when he defeated José Benavídez Jr. by unanimous decision. For LaManna, this was his first loss since May 2021, when he was knocked out by Erislandy Lara. Prior to the Charlo fight, LaManna had won nine consecutive bouts.
