Keyshawn Reveals When He’ll Move to Welterweight

Keyshawn Davis / Melina Pizano, Matchroom

Former WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis has shared his plan to move up to the welterweight division. While this shift had been rumored previously, the American has now confirmed it and named the specific fight that will precede the jump.

“I’m 26 years old, and I see how the situation in boxing looks right now. I understand that Shakur might become the champion at 140 lbs, and that’s my division. In general, I feel like boxing is my territory; I can do whatever I want.

I know what I want after the victory over Jamaine. I want to move up to welterweight and capture a title there,” Keyshawn said.

Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) has not stepped into the ring since February 2025, when he knocked out Denys Berinchyk to become the world champion in the lightweight division. Subsequently, Keyshawn failed to make weight for a scheduled bout against Edwin De Los Santos and announced a hiatus from the sport.

His return is set for January 31, 2026, at Madison Square Garden in New York. He will face Jamaine Ortiz (20-2-1, 10 KOs) in a super lightweight (140 lbs) bout on the undercard of the Teofimo Lopez vs. Shakur Stevenson superfight.
