Katie Taylor Granted Champion in Recess Status by WBC

The 39-year-old undisputed super lightweight champion Katie Taylor has been granted “Champion in Recess” status by the World Boxing Council (WBC).

The announcement came from WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman, who explained Taylor’s decision:

“She informed us that she plans to take a break from her career to sort out personal matters. She was scheduled to fight Chantelle Cameron; by granting her Champion in Recess status, we have ordered Sandy Ryan to face Cameron to determine the WBC super lightweight champion.”

Katie Taylor (25-1, 6 KOs) last fought on July 11 in a trilogy bout against Amanda Serrano, winning by majority decision. Her sole career loss came against Chantelle Cameron (21-1, 8 KOs) in May 2023, though Taylor avenged it in their November rematch.
