Joshua on Usyk’s Team: “They Are Winners”

Anthony Joshua

Former unified Heavyweight world champion, the Briton Anthony Joshua, shared why he began working with the team of the Ukrainian three-time undisputed world champion, Oleksandr Usyk.

“I stepped into the shadows. I have to work on myself and shuffle my deck. Interestingly, 12 months later, I found myself training in Valencia again with the team that trained Lomachenko and Usyk. Look, if you want to win, surround yourself with winners. They are winners.

To compete, to stay on your feet for 12 rounds at an elite level, to be as good in the 12th round as you are in the first, takes a lot of hard work. It was challenging, but the body adapts. You have to embrace the challenge. And I’ll say this: the coach shows me his care through hard work.

I don't just train to compete. I train because I enjoy the training. Now, when it comes to training for competition, I will always work hard no matter who it is, because that’s just in my DNA. We work hard. Every camp has to get better. Every session has to get better,” said Joshua.

Joshua’s next bout will take place in Miami, USA. On December 19, he will step into the ring for the first time since his loss to Daniel Dubois – he will face Jake Paul.

Anthony met Usyk twice. He lost both times by decision.
