Golden Boy and DAZN have not renewed their deal – insider

Golden Boy Promotions, the promotional company headed by Oscar De La Hoya, may be facing serious issues with its TV partner. According to insider Dan Rafael, the contract with streaming platform DAZN is coming to an end and a new agreement has not yet been reached.

Rafael revealed this on the Big Fight Weekend podcast. According to him, DAZN had been insisting on staging a fight between Jaron Ennis and Vergil Ortiz Jr. as a condition for extending the partnership.

“I understand it this way: Golden Boy’s contract with DAZN is expiring and has not officially been renewed. To reach a new agreement, DAZN was putting pressure on De La Hoya with the demand to make the Ennis–Ortiz fight,” Rafael said.

Recently, De La Hoya publicly stated that the fight between Ennis and Ortiz will not take place, so Team Ortiz now plans to reach out to the camp of WBC super welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora (23-1-1, 15 KOs) about possibly making that fight instead.

Earlier, De La Hoya took to social media to address Hearn with a proposal to split the purse for a fight between Vergil Ortiz Jr. (24-0, 22 KOs) and Jaron Ennis (35-0, 31 KOs) 60/40 in Vergil’s favor, plus an additional 5% bonus for the winner from the total pot.

In response, Hearn stated that both sides had already agreed to a 50/50 split and a 5% winner’s bonus, but Ortiz never signed that agreement, unlike Ennis.
