Ramírez’s January 16 fight in jeopardy: Safar won’t be Zurdo’s opponent

The next bout for WBA and WBO cruiserweight titleholder Gilberto Ramírez, scheduled for January 16 against Robin Safar, may not take place. Insider Dan Rafael reported this.

“According to a source involved in the process, unified cruiserweight world champion Zurdo Ramírez may not enter the ring on January 16, when he was considering having an interim fight ahead of a bout with Benavidez. And if he does decide to fight, his opponent will not be Robin Safar,” Rafael wrote.

Reminder: Zurdo Ramírez (48-1, 30 KOs) has agreed to a fight against WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavidez on May 2, 2026, in Las Vegas, USA. Before that, the Mexican planned to have an interim bout.

Ramírez last fought in June against Yuniel Dorticos and won by unanimous decision.
