Eddie Hearn explained why negotiations between Usyk and Fury are delayed

01 Mar

Promoter Eddie Hearn revealed why negotiations are being delayed for a unification fight between WBA/WBO/IBF/IBO titleholder Oleksandr Usyk and WBC champion Tyson Fury.

"I don't often agree with John Fury (father of the boxer), but I see the argument. Sometimes if you want something as bad as an outright championship, you have to go all out to get a deal, and both sides are in that situation right now."

"Tyson Fury is obviously saying, 'There's no way I'm going to give Usyk 50/50,' and Usyk is going to say, 'There's no way I'm going to take part in this fight without 50/50, I've got three belts.' Someone has to make a concession that they don't want to make, and that rarely happens in boxing."

"The reality is that Tyson Fury's commercial value is on a different level compared to Oleksandr Usyk."

The plan is for Fury and Usyk to compete for the absolute world championship title in a face-to-face fight on April 29 at Wembley Stadium in London. According to Alex Krassyuk, Usyk's promoter, negotiations with Fury's team must be completed by March 4th.
