37-year-old British heavyweight Dillian Whyte has spoken out about his defeat to his 20-year-old countryman, rising prospect Moses Itauma.
“What happened, happened. There were a few things that went the wrong way, but what can you do? This is heavyweight boxing, brother — I got caught, and that’s it. That’s the heavyweight division. No reason to take anything away from Moses: he’s a good fighter, a young prospect. How many years younger is he than me? Shit happens.
The fight didn’t last long enough for me to properly assess his power. He wasn’t as fast as I expected. But when he landed, he gave me no chance — he just poured shots on, one after another. I got up and was ready to continue, but the referee stopped it, so there was nothing I could do,” Whyte told Boxing King Media.
On August 16, Dillian Whyte (31-4, 21 KOs) was stopped by Moses Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) via first-round technical knockout. The fight lasted less than two minutes.
