Not the Size. Expert Explains What Will Be Decisive in Canelo–Crawford Fight

Former world champion and now television analyst Timothy Bradley believes size will not be the deciding factor in the upcoming clash between Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford, scheduled for September 13 in the United States.

“You think this fight will be easy for Canelo Alvarez just because he’s bigger? No, not at all. I’m telling you — boxing doesn’t work like that. No, not at all.

It’s all about skill. About the mind. That’s where Crawford is way ahead of Canelo. His biggest, strongest advantage — is right here [points to head]. Not power, not speed, not technique — it all comes down to his brain. He’s got it all perfectly tuned in his head. And that’s his advantage.

Canelo gets nervous. Did you see him against William Scull? I’ve never seen Terence Crawford change his facial expression in a fight. The only thing I’ve seen is him smile. That’s it. But you’ll never see that dude panic.

With Canelo, I’ve often seen panic in his eyes when he’s fighting and can’t reach his opponent. Crawford will take him out of rhythm. Canelo will be swinging like crazy, getting mad, yelling: ‘Come on, fight me!’

And you know what? The mind, the calm — that’s what wins the fight for Crawford. Everything else is just a bonus. And when Canelo gets angry — he’s going to get cracked in the head as soon as he makes a mistake. To the body too.

This will be the toughest fight for Crawford. Absolutely. But for Canelo too. No doubt about it,” said Bradley.

On the line in the showdown between Terence Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) and Canelo Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) will be the undisputed Super Middleweight crown. If victorious, Terence could become a three-time undisputed champion.
