Caleb Plant: “We Have a Rematch Clause With Reséndiz”

American super middleweight Caleb Plant (23-3, 14 KOs) shared his thoughts following his loss to WBA interim champion José Armando Reséndiz (16-2, 11 KOs).

I felt like it was an even fight, and in those kinds of fights, the decision can go either way. I felt confident, I was in control, using the ring, working behind the jab — but the judges saw it differently.

It’s not like he was pressuring me all the time. He did catch me with a good overhand right — that was solid. But aside from that, nothing really stunned or surprised me. I think I fought a good fight — stayed behind the jab, moved well, stayed patient. But on this night, I wasn’t the better man,” Plant said.

At the post-fight press conference, Plant revealed he suffered an injury during the bout and confirmed plans for a rematch:

I wasn’t able to use my right hand the way I wanted. It was bothering me a bit. I felt like I won five of the first six rounds. I think I took another two late in the fight — that makes it 7–5. I thought I did enough to win 7–5 on the cards, but the judges didn’t see it that way.

I’d love to go straight into a fight with Charlo, but we have a rematch clause. And I’m more than ready to run it back,” Caleb noted.

To recap, on the night of June 1, José Armando Reséndiz defeated Caleb Plant by split decision. Judges’ scores: 116–112 (Reséndiz), 115–113 (Plant), 116–112 (Reséndiz). Full fight stats available via the link.
