Bradley Says Canelo’s Trainer Called Ortiz’s Coach: “Don’t Take the Ennis Fight”

Former world champion and current TV boxing analyst Timothy Bradley claims that, according to his information, Eddy Reynoso, trainer of Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez, personally called Robert Garcia, coach of Vergil Ortiz, advising him not to accept a fight with Jaron “Boots” Ennis.

Ennis — what you’re seeing right now — that’s ‘Mexican hood.’

Don’t you think Reynoso made that call to Robert Garcia: ‘Ennis vs. Vergil Ortiz? Don’t do it.’ That’s what it was about.

Robert Garcia got the call. And the call was: ‘You don’t need that. Don’t do it. Ennis is dangerous. He’s in there doing work with Canelo. They’re trading shots. But damn, Canelo weighs 168 pounds and Ennis 154 — and Boots is holding his own with Canelo. No, you don’t need that.’

That’s what ‘Mexican hood’ means. They understood it,” Bradley said.

Jaron Ennis indeed trained in Canelo’s camp and sparred with him ahead of Álvarez’s fight with Terence Crawford — a bout Canelo lost by decision.
