Top Rank founder and CEO Bob Arum has shared insights on when lightweight champion Vasyl Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs), who holds the IBF and IBO titles, will decide on his future in boxing. Arum also named potential opponents if the Ukrainian chooses to continue his career.
“I met with Vasyl, his father, and Egis [Klimas] a few months ago when Lomachenko was still living and training in Los Angeles. Before his last fight, he mentioned wanting to spend more time with his kids.
He told me then that he planned to return to Ukraine and would contact me after the New Year to decide if he wants to return to boxing and whom he’d like to fight. That’s all I can say. I can’t read his mind, so I don’t know what decisions he’ll make. His situation is further complicated by the ongoing war in Ukraine, so predicting anything is impossible.
If he decides to return, could Gervonta Davis be his opponent? That would be an incredible fight, but there are plenty of great options for him. For example, Shakur Stevenson is another outstanding opponent. Keyshawn Davis could also be a solid choice if he secures a world title. So Vasyl has many worthy challengers,” said Arum.
Lomachenko last fought in May, defeating George Kambosos by 11th-round TKO to claim the IBF and IBO titles.
