Lawrence Okolie: “I’d stop Kabayel inside six rounds”

Lawrence Okolie / Leigh Dawney, Queensberry Promotions

Former two-division world champion Lawrence Okolie has shared his thoughts on a potential fight against WBC interim heavyweight titleholder Agit Kabayel.

– What do you think would happen if you stepped into the ring with Agit?

– I’d stop him inside six rounds.

– He works the body really well, you can’t deny that. How would you deal with it?

– I think he’s a good puncher, a good boxer overall, but styles make fights. I don’t think he’d be able to land even a single body shot on me. It’s easy to talk, but if this fight happens, we’ll show it.

– Could your experience in championship fights play a role? You were a champion at cruiserweight.

– One hundred percent. You have to remember that nights like this are normal for me. Fifteen thousand fans is nothing to me. And this guy has never boxed more than ten rounds. My experience plus the fact that I punch hard and accurately will make this a straightforward night’s work.

– You’re someone who treats everyone with respect, but are you ready to do what’s necessary to get this fight?

– I’ll be myself, but I’ll definitely have a few things to say, – Okolie said.

On 21 December, Lawrence Okolie (23-1, 17 KOs) defeated Ebenezer Tetteh after the Ghanaian refused to continue the fight.

On 10 January, Agit Kabayel (27-0, 19 KOs) stopped Damian Knyba with a third-round technical knockout. You can find the full punch stats for that bout from Ready to Fight at the link below.
