Undisputed super middleweight champion Terence Crawford revealed that before their fight, Errol Spence already had a deal in place to face Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.
“After the fight with Spence, I thought, ‘I want to fight Canelo.’
Spence actually had a contract for a fight with Canelo at 164 pounds (catchweight at 74.3 kg) if he had beaten me. And then I thought: ‘Damn, since I’m here, I should get that chance,’” said Crawford.
Crawford stopped Spence in 2023 to become the undisputed welterweight champion (147 lbs / 66.68 kg). In 2025, Terence moved up to super middleweight (168 lbs / 76.2 kg) and defeated Canelo by decision.
