British heavyweight Dillian Whyte shared his thoughts on a potential bout between the undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk and interim WBO titleholder Fabio Wardley.
“Usyk doesn’t seem to avoid a single challenge. He’s fought all the top guys. If you look at his last 10 fights, that’s the best cruiserweight in the world, the best in the world, the best heavyweight in the world — again the best in the world. There’s no single reason he shouldn’t fight Fabio.
Of course, it could happen that a bigger fight appears on the horizon for Usyk. But as a fan, and knowing the kind of man I think he is, I don’t think he will vacate the belts. I think he will fight Fabio Wardley.
If he beats Fabio Wardley — adds this guy to the list of everyone he has already beaten — that finally cements him as the best fighter of the past 20 years.
He fought champions, contenders, top contenders, fighters from different generations, and he beat them. He defeated fighters from his own generation, the one before, and even those coming after him.
I think people should have given Wardley his respect a long time ago. I saw something in him that even he himself only now started to realize — just like the whole world. He just keeps beating these guys. The ones who are supposed to destroy him — and he breaks them down with ease.
I believe Fabio will become a world champion, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he eventually becomes the undisputed champion of the world,” Whyte said.
In July, Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KO) won his rematch against Daniel Dubois, knocking him out in the 5th round and reclaiming the undisputed heavyweight championship.
On October 25, Fabio Wardley (20-0-1, 19 KO) stopped Joseph Parker by TKO in the 11th round. The WBO has ordered Usyk to defend his title against the winner of that fight.
