WBC Grand Prix Quarterfinal Statistics: What Changed Compared to the Previous Round

On August 13 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the WBC Grand Prix quarterfinal bouts took place. Fighters from the same four weight classes returned to the ring: Featherweight, Light Welterweight, Middleweight, and Heavyweight. Ready to Fight compared the quarterfinal stats to those from earlier stages.

After the opening round (Round of 32), fighters became more cautious in the Round of 16, and this tendency only strengthened in the quarterfinals: in two of the four weight categories, all fights went the full distance.

Featherweight – No Knockouts for the Second Consecutive Stage

Once again, this division topped the list for bouts going to the scorecards – 100% of fights lasted the distance. However, the rate of unanimous decisions dropped compared to the Round of 16, from 75% to 50%. The average fight length remained at 6 rounds.

Light Welterweight – Stability and No Stoppages

Just like in Featherweight, there were no knockouts in this division – all bouts ended via decision. The share of unanimous decisions stayed the same at 75%. The average fight length was 5.75 rounds (the bout between Daniil Lozan and Sanatali Toltayev was stopped in the 5th due to a cut on the Ukrainian), slightly longer than in the previous round.

Middleweight – Tournament Record for Knockout Percentage in This Division

The percentage of stoppages continued to rise. In the Round of 32, knockouts accounted for 18.75%, rising to 25% in the Round of 16. In the quarterfinals, 50% of the bouts ended inside the distance, while the remaining half went to unanimous decisions. The average fight length dropped from 5.4 to 4.25 rounds.
