Warren Warns Pulev of Consequences If He Fights Gassiev Instead of Itauma

Queensberry Promotions head Frank Warren has issued a firm warning to Kubrat Pulev, insisting the Bulgarian must fulfill his mandatory obligation to face rising British heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma — or risk serious consequences.

Warren confirmed that the World Boxing Association has already ordered Pulev to defend his WBA Regular heavyweight title against 20-year-old Itauma, and any attempt to bypass this could backfire.

Pulev has to fight Moses Itauma — that’s an official order. The fight must take place for the WBA Regular title. This puts Moses in a very strong position, and right now we’re working to finalize the details — otherwise it will go to purse bids.

They’ve announced that Pulev will defend the title against Murat Gassiev, but the WBA has not sanctioned that fight. And if Pulev goes ahead with it, he’ll have problems, because the WBA has already ordered the fight with Moses — and that could create problems for us as well.

At the moment, we don’t fully understand where we stand. We need to clarify things with Pulev and determine exactly what the situation is,” said Warren.

As of now, Pulev vs Murat Gassiev is being targeted for December 12 in Dubai — but that matchup may now be in jeopardy if the WBA enforces its mandatory ruling in favor of Moses Itauma.
