Interim WBA Heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley, 30, spoke at the first press conference ahead of his clash with WBO Interim titleholder Joseph Parker, comparing himself to three of Parker’s recent opponents.
I’m a completely different fighter than those three guys. I’m not Bakole weighing 30 stone (around 190–200 kg). I’m not the 15-stone (95 kg) Wilder, who isn’t really the real Wilder — we’ve been seeing the same thing for years. And I’m not the 40-year-old Zhilei, who gasses out after four or five rounds. I’m a totally different animal. A totally different beast. And I’ll say it again: I don’t want to take anything away from Joseph Parker, because those were great fights, great wins, and you can’t take away credit from a man who steps in the ring and beats whoever is put in front of him. But I’m not those guys, said Wardley.
The showdown between Joseph Parker (36-3, 24 KOs) and Fabio Wardley (19-0-1, 18 KOs) will take place on October 25 at the O2 Arena in London. Undisputed Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk will be obligated to face the winner. Serhii Lapin, CEO of Usyk’s team, has already reacted to this ruling in a comment for Ready to Fight.
