WBO Junior Welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez explained why he and his future opponent, Shakur Stevenson, do not need an obligatory rematch clause in the contract.
“Canelo has a unique one that only works for Canelo. And it didn't happen on the night of the fight with Crawford. Crawford won the fight, as I thought.
“We are not in the same situation. The best attribute among my skills is my footwork. So I want to see what I can bring to the table against a boxer like Shakur. What have I learned from all the boxers I have faced in my 23 professional fights?
“And no, we do not have an obligatory rematch clause. We are risking everything. There is no need for this clause,” said Lopez.
The Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs) vs. Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) bout will take place on January 31 in New York, USA. This will be Shakur's debut fight at Junior Welterweight. He currently holds the WBC Lightweight title.
