Ryan on “20 million” phone call with Oscar: “I was just trolling”

American boxer Ryan Garcia clarified whether he actually spoke with promoter Oscar De La Hoya, after a video went viral where he appeared to tell Oscar not to call him unless he had a $20 million offer.

“It’s crazy I even have to write this, because it’s obvious — I was just trolling during a livestream. No one spoke with Oscar, and I never said I need $20 million for a fight. You could see he wasn’t even on the phone.

Even Oscar believed it, and he knows I didn’t talk to him.

I see people still don’t get how clips work — how things get chopped up and how subtitles and edits can change everything. But hey, the older generation will have to catch up sooner or later.

I was just joking around with my friends and the community — and it was obvious. I laughed right after. You’d know that if you watched the full thing instead of just a clipped-out moment,” Garcia wrote.

Garcia last fought on May 2, when he lost to Rolando “Rolly” Romero in a bout for the WBA “regular” title. Rolly has since been elevated to full champion status after Jaron Ennis vacated the belt.
