Former world champion and Olympic silver medalist Roy Jones Jr. revealed that his opponent from the 1988 Olympic final in Seoul gave him the gold medal years later.
Back then, local fighter Park Si-Hun was declared the winner by a 3-2 decision, a result still considered one of the most controversial in Olympic boxing history. Jones lost the final but was awarded the Val Barker Trophy as the tournament’s most outstanding stylist.
“In 1988 I was robbed of a gold medal in one of the biggest scandals in boxing history. By God’s grace, a few years ago the man who won that medal came from South Korea to my home to return it to me, believing it rightfully belonged to me. I hope you enjoy this moment as much as I do,” Jones wrote.
