Mike Tyson Supports Changes to the Muhammad Ali Act

Mike Tyson, Dana White / talkSPORT

Former undisputed Heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson said he supports the changes to the Muhammad Ali Act. The amendments are being pushed by Dana White, head of the UFC and TKO Boxing.

Muhammad Ali has always been my hero — in the ring and outside of it. Supporting these changes honors the spirit of the original Ali Act by closing loopholes that allowed some promoters to regain monopolistic control over fighters’ careers. This new legislation restores balance by allowing boxers to choose their own path while preserving the integrity of the sport. The law doesn’t change opportunities for those who feel comfortable in the current system — it simply adds options for fighters who want to choose a different route that better aligns with their career goals.

The proposed reforms provide fighters with meaningful benefits. Establishing a minimum amount per round ensures that every athlete who steps into the ring receives fair compensation for the risk they take on their body and mind. Requiring mandatory medical insurance is just as important — no fighter should have to choose between paying medical bills and continuing their career. I’ve seen too many of my peers face that impossible choice,” Tyson’s letter said.

Dana White claims the changes will not rewrite the existing law, but supplement it. Critics of the changes are confident they will lead to even greater monopolization of the sport — including in the hands of TKO Boxing, which is the first boxing promotion and is partially financed by Turki Alalshikh.
