Malik Scott, former trainer of Deontay Wilder, shared his thoughts on the 39-year-old heavyweight’s future and revealed the opponent he’d most like to see him face — former world champion Andy Ruiz Jr.
“I’d love to see that fight. Hopefully it happens. Deontay has always wanted it. But Andy overvalued himself. When you price yourself out, it’s a modern way of saying you don’t want to fight.
But it would be a classic matchup — a modern-day knockout artist against Andy, who can punch too. The winner gets Usyk — no doubt about it,” said Scott in an interview with ESNEWS.
In June, Deontay Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) scored a technical knockout victory over Tyrell Herndon.
Andy Ruiz Jr. (35-2-1, 22 KOs) last fought in August 2024 against Jarrell Miller, a bout that ended in a draw.
