Former world champion and now boxing analyst Johnny Nelson believes ex-heavyweight world champion Tyson Fury (34-2-1, 24 KOs) will return to the ring.
"I think he wants us to beg him to come back. ‘No, no, please don’t do this.’ He’s not going anywhere because there’s too much money on the line for a fight with AJ.
Today he’s retired, he’s done. Tomorrow, he’ll want half a billion. He’s just bad at poker. You know what this is about. He’s trying to raise the stakes. I think Eddie Hearn predicted this a week ago. So, I don’t believe it," Nelson said.
Potential title challenger Zhang Zhilei also doubts Fury’s retirement is final:
"I think it’s a pretty common phenomenon in boxing—you retire for a month or two and then come back.
Maybe he’s not feeling great for a few days, announces retirement, and then returns. He’s done this many times before," said Zhang.
Tyson Fury announced his retirement from boxing on January 13, 2025. In 2024, he suffered two losses to Oleksandr Usyk, made no public statements afterward, and later declared he would not return to the ring.
