Ennis Camp Offered Haney a Fight—But on One Condition

Former undisputed Lightweight champion Devin Haney spoke about negotiations with the camp of ex‑unified welterweight champion Jaron Ennis. According to Devin, the bout was proposed at a catch‑weight of 152 lb (68.95 kg).

Ennis’s team came with an offer for a fight. We said, ‘Let’s do it.’

But they wanted it at 152 pounds. That made no sense, because I haven’t even fought at Welterweight (147 lb / 66.68 kg).

The next best guy was Brian Norman, so we settled on him,” Haney said.

Haney (32‑0, 15 KOs) will return on 22 November against WBO Welterweight champion Brian Norman (28‑0, 22 KOs). Jaron Ennis (34‑0, 30 KOs) has vacated his IBF and WBA Welterweight belts and plans to move up in weight.
