Don Charles Warns Wilder Against Fighting Chisora: "Disrespectful to Consider Him a Tune-Up"

Deontay Wilder, Derek Chisora

Former trainer of Derek Chisora and Daniel Dubois, Don Charles, has reacted to the potential matchup between Chisora and Deontay Wilder, which, as previously reported, could take place in 2026.

The expert believes that viewing Chisora as an easy option for a return is a grave mistake for the American.

“I would say exactly this. I wouldn't look at Derek, regardless of what stage of his career he is at now, I wouldn't pick him for a comeback fight or as a tune-up fight.

It's disrespect. I believe that for Wilder, especially considering his last few fights, I definitely wouldn't choose Derek Chisora. However, if it's true, then so be it,” Charles said.

Derek Chisora is planning one final walk to the ring. This will be his 50th professional bout, after which he intends to retire. In his previous three fights, Derek secured three victories via judges' decisions.

Deontay Wilder has won only once in his last three outings. As reported earlier, the "Bronze Bomber" is also considered the leading candidate for a fight against heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk.
