Don Charles, the former trainer of British heavyweight Daniel Dubois, reflected on the cancelled matchup between Dubois and former world champion Joseph Parker, which was scheduled for early 2025.
Charles is convinced that Dubois would have been the favorite — and that Parker would have had no chance if the fight had taken place.
“When I trained Daniel Dubois, we were supposed to fight Joseph Parker. I’m not being arrogant — I’m simply stating facts. I said at the time that Parker wouldn’t be able to cope with Daniel’s style. I had studied Parker’s approach, and Dubois is the worst possible matchup for him.
I was genuinely disappointed that the fight didn’t happen, because Daniel wasn’t feeling well. We had to be sensible and pull him out. But I’m sure Daniel would have destroyed him with that style. I know this style, I know all styles. So yes, it’s a shame. I really regret that the fight never came to be. But, at the end of the day, God knows best,” Charles said.
The fight between Daniel Dubois (22-3, 21 KOs) and Joseph Parker (36-4, 24 KOs) was scheduled for February, but Dubois had to withdraw due to illness.
