American boxer Ryan Garcia has shared his thoughts on the upcoming September 13 clash between Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Terence Crawford, favoring the Mexican to score a knockout reminiscent of his finish of Amir Khan.
“I’ve trained with Canelo and been around him. Bro can literally push back heavyweights,” said Garcia. “It’s the first time in a long time that Canelo is bigger than his opponent. There’s no weight drain now, so he’ll fight with more freedom. I can’t wait to see it. I’ll definitely be rooting for Canelo — but Crawford is a great fighter. He could surprise me.”
If I had to bet today, my money’s on Canelo. I can picture Crawford getting knocked out like Amir Khan.
I think Crawford will try to do what Floyd [Mayweather] did — maintain position, stay composed. But he doesn’t have Floyd’s defense. That’s the key. I see him trying to hold his ground, not really pressing forward — more just staying put.”
The fight between Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) and Canelo (63-2-2, 39 KOs) is set for September 13 in Las Vegas, with all four Super Middleweight world titles — currently held by Canelo — on the line.
