Callum Smith and David Morrell Can Still Reach A Deal: WBO Postpones Purse Bid

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has announced the postponement of the promotional purse bid for a fight between WBO Interim Light Heavyweight champion Callum Smith and Cuba’s David Morrell. It was originally scheduled for November 25.

The news was confirmed by WBO president Gustavo Olivieri.

“Matchroom Boxing requested a one-week extension to reach an agreement on the terms. Morrell’s team did not object, and so the parties have been given time until 23:00 on Friday, November 28, to finalize a deal,” WBO president Gustavo Olivieri said.

Morrell (12-1, 9 KO) last fought in July 2025, when he defeated Imam Khataev.

Smith (31-2, 22 KO) faced Joshua Buatsi this winter and won the title via a decision victory.
