British trainer Joe Gallagher has proposed adding another weight division to professional boxing. According to him, it should sit between light heavyweight and cruiserweight.
Gallagher notes that the difference between those divisions is too big: light heavyweight is capped at 79.4 kg, while cruiserweight goes up to 90.7 kg. The new division, in his view, should not exceed 84.8 kg and would serve as a “golden middle” between the two.
Recently, the WBC already introduced a new weight division — bridgerweight — positioned between cruiserweight and heavyweight, to separate fighters weighing a little over 100 kg from bigger athletes above the 110 kg mark.
