Benavidez Doesn't Rule Out Fight Against Canelo: "Until He Retires"

WBC light heavyweight champion David Benavidez has stated that a showdown with former undisputed champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez is still a possibility.

“I’m not really tired of it. It’s a fight that the people have always wanted to see. Until Canelo retires, there’s still an opportunity to make the fight happen,” Benavidez said.

Benavidez (31-0, 25 KOs) previously held the WBC interim super middleweight title but was unable to secure a fight against Canelo, which eventually prompted his move to a heavier weight class. Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) lost his undisputed status to Terence Crawford in 2025. Currently, Canelo is recovering from elbow surgery performed in October.
