Ben Davison, trainer of 20-year-old British Heavyweight prospect Moses Itauma, answered whether his fighter can become a world champion.
Yes, without any doubt. I don’t think this country has ever had the best boxer in the world, regardless of weight class. We have a chance to change that. I don’t think there’s another Heavyweight — apart from Usyk, let alone a British Heavyweight — with the potential to become the best P4P boxer in the world. That’s exactly what we have with Moses Itauma. Right now, there’s all this talk about the “right fight” for Usyk. I’m convinced he should fight this guy. At this moment, there’s no one who has a better chance to beat Oleksandr than Moses Itauma. That’s my genuine and honest feeling, said Davison.
On August 16, Moses Itauma (13-0, 11 KOs) stopped Dillian Whyte in the first round. Itauma currently tops the WBA and WBO rankings and is ranked No. 5 and No. 11 with the IBF and WBC, respectively.
In July, Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) regained the undisputed Heavyweight championship with a fifth-round knockout of Daniel Dubois.
