British Light Heavyweight Wants Canelo Fight: “It Would Be Madness”

British light heavyweight Anthony Yarde has not ruled out the possibility of facing Mexican super middleweight Saul “Canelo” Alvarez.

“Someone like Canelo? I think Canelo will want to come back, and he’ll think: ‘I can beat that guy. He lost to Kovalev — I knocked Kovalev out.’ You see what I mean? Nobody knows where that could lead. Imagine Anthony Yarde vs. Saul Alvarez — that would be madness.

That’s why I got into this sport — to have the biggest and best fights possible. It’s just in my nature. Those are the kind of fights that excite me.

Just like I feel I could have won that fight with Beterbiev — small, small adjustments. I go in with the mindset that I can beat David Benavidez.

He’s exceptional. Some say Canelo avoided him. He’s beaten many undefeated fighters. He’s fought the best in the world. That’s what motivates me,” Yarde said.

Anthony Yarde (26-3, 24 KOs) is set to face David Benavidez on November 22 in Saudi Arabia.

Saul Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) recently lost to Terence Crawford and is preparing for elbow surgery before his return.
