Anthony Joshua involved in car accident in Nigeria: all the details

It was announced today that former heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua was involved in a car accident in Nigeria.

According to officials, there were five men in the vehicle when it collided with a truck parked on the roadside. Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps reports that the vehicle — a Lexus SUV — was allegedly speeding and crashed while attempting an overtake.

As a result of the accident, two people were killed – they were Anthony’s trainers and close friends, Latz and Sina. Joshua was hospitalized with minor injuries, while two other people were not hurt.

Officials said police arrived at the scene within three minutes of being notified of the incident.

One of Joshua’s relatives told the BBC that news of the crash “came as a shock” to the family.

“We are hoping for his speedy recovery and also the people who passed away – I pray for the departed to rest in peace,” the relative said.

According to him, the boxer was traveling from Lagos to the family home.

Anthony’s promoter and Matchroom Boxing boss Eddie Hearn said he learned about the crash while on holiday.

“We are trying to contact Anthony and in the meantime we don't want to speculate on how he is but thankfully he appears OK from what I have seen in the images. We are awaiting more information on what has happened and will update in due course,” Hearn said.

Former Joshua opponent, influencer and boxer Jake Paul has voiced his support for the Brit.

“Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident,” Jake wrote.
