Tszyu vs. Fundora: Key Fight Statistics

On March 30th, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, USA, WBO world champion in the super welterweight division (up to 69.9 kg) Tim Tszyu (24-1, 17 KOs) defended his title against American Sebastian Fundora (21-1-1, 13 KOs). The vacant WBC title was also on the line.

As early as the third round, both fighters were bleeding: Fundora with nose and mouth injuries, and Tszyu suffering a cut from an elbow clash. The bout went the full 12 rounds, concluding with a split decision victory for Fundora. The judges scored the fight: 116-112 (Tszyu) and 116-112, 115-113 (Fundora).

According to Compubox, Tszyu landed 175 out of 400 punches (43.8%). Fundora’s accuracy was 194 out of 721 (26.9%).

Tszyu connected with 39 of 112 jabs thrown (34.8%). For Fundora, this statistic was 93 out of 437 (21.3%).

The majority of Tszyu’s hits were power punches: 136 out of 288 (47.2%). Fundora's power punch accuracy was 101 out of 284 (35.6%).

What’s Next?

Fundora is now the WBO and WBC champion in the super welterweight division. Terence Crawford (40-0, 31 KOs), having utilized his status as WBO “super champion,” has the right to challenge the champion of this version in the next weight category, which now includes Fundora.

However, another name has recently emerged – Errol Spence (28-1, 22 KOs). Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, stated that for Spence to secure a fight with the winner of Tszyu vs. Fundora instead of Terence Crawford, all it would take is one phone call.
