Naoya Inoue Earns Record Purse for Picasso Fight

On 27 December in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Japanese undisputed super bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue faced Mexican contender Alan David Picasso.

The fight went the full distance and ended with a unanimous decision win for Inoue. The judges’ scorecards read 120–108, 119–109 and 117–111 in favour of the Japanese undisputed champion.

Inoue’s purse for this bout totalled around 4 billion yen (approximately 25.7 million US dollars) — a record-breaking figure in the history of Japanese sports. Previously, his highest payday for a single fight was in the range of 1–1.1 billion yen (6.4–7 million dollars).
