WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman shared his thoughts on a potential clash in the Light Heavyweight division between WBC champion David Benavidez and unified WBA, WBO, and IBF titleholder Dmitry Bivol.
“That would be the best fight in the Light Heavyweight division. I regret that Bivol is sidelined with an injury, but we’ll see what happens in the near future,” said Sulaiman.
On November 22, David Benavidez (30-0, 24 KOs) will make the first defense of his title against Anthony Yarde.
In February, Dmitry Bivol (24-1, 12 KOs) defeated Artur Beterbiev by majority decision in their rematch, becoming the undisputed champion at Light Heavyweight. Soon after, Bivol was ordered to make a mandatory WBC defense against Benavidez, but he declined in favor of a trilogy with Beterbiev. Currently, Bivol is injured and will not return to the ring before the end of the year.
