Michael Ofo, manager of interim WBO heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley, shared his thoughts on his fighter’s performance against Joseph Parker, as well as assessed his chances in a potential bout with undisputed champion Oleksandr Usyk.
“I believe one of Fabio’s greatest strengths is his mentality. And I don’t care who you are — that’s incredibly hard to deal with. He never stops trying, he always comes forward, and he has the power to finish you.
Oleksandr Usyk has already been through some very tough fights, and you know, he’s getting older. Meanwhile, Fabio is fresh, young and hungry. You should never underestimate a hungry man. So if Fabio believes he can beat Usyk — then I believe it too.
Wardley’s win over Parker? I expected it to happen exactly the way it did. It’s no surprise to me — I know what Fabio Wardley is capable of. I’m fully convinced that when Fabio senses an opponent is hurt, he is the best finisher in the world. I think he mentally broke Parker, then closed the show.
Wardley just proved why he’s the best heavyweight in the world. But up next, of course, is Usyk. The next challenge is Oleksandr Usyk,” said Ofo.
On October 25, Fabio Wardley (20-0-1, 19 KOs) defeated Joseph Parker (36-4, 24 KOs) by technical knockout in the 11th round. The World Boxing Organization (WBO) has ordered Oleksandr Usyk (24-0, 15 KOs) to defend his championship against the winner of that bout.
