Three-time undisputed world champion Oleksandr Usyk has congratulated former middleweight king Gennadiy Golovkin on being elected president of World Boxing, the amateur governing body working to keep boxing in the Olympic family.
“Gennadiy, congratulations on your appointment as president of World Boxing. This is an important step for the sport and the beginning of a new chapter in its development,” – Usyk wrote.
Golovkin, until now, had not officially announced his retirement from professional boxing. He previously mentioned the condition under which he would formally step away.
In his last fight, Gennadiy lost to Canelo Álvarez by decision, dropping the final part of their trilogy.
