Top Rank VP: “I Don’t Know If We’ll See Lomachenko Again”

Top Rank Vice President Carl Moretti has addressed the uncertain future of Ukrainian lightweight champion Vasiliy Lomachenko (18–3, 12 KOs), who currently holds the IBF and IBO titles.

“He has to make a decision.

By September, he needs to decide whether he’ll fight the mandatory challenger — the winner of Muratalla vs. Abdullaev. That will show what he really wants.

That doesn’t mean he won’t fight again — maybe it’ll be someone else.

No final decision has been made.”

Moretti emphasized that the next move is entirely in Lomachenko’s hands:

“He can do whatever he wants. He’s Loma.

I don’t think he needs a title to prove his greatness or to build promotion around him.

The real question is: does he still want to fight? We can’t plan anything until he decides.”

He also revealed how close they once were to making a mega-fight with Gervonta “Tank” Davis:

“We were in the red zone — really close to finalizing a Lomachenko vs. Davis fight.

But Loma didn’t want to fight anyone at that time. It had nothing to do with Tank. He just wanted to take a break.

I don’t know if we’ll see him in the ring again.”

Lomachenko last fought on May 12, 2024, when he stopped George Kambosos Jr. via 11th-round TKO to reclaim championship gold.
