Former undisputed world champion in three weight classes Terence Crawford has explained why he decided to end his professional boxing career.

– So you’re retired?

– “Yeah, man.”

– Why did you do it? Is it because of the belts situation?

– “No, not at all. That would’ve been stupid on my part. I’m 38.”

– But you’re still young.

– “Thirty-eight is old for boxing. I’ve been fighting since I was seven years old. So I’ve got nothing left to prove. There’s nothing left for me to achieve. What else can I do? They’re not going to give me my due anyway, so it really doesn’t matter.”

– Why do you think they won’t give you your due?

– “Because I’m just that good. I don’t wanna sound cocky, but when you’re that much better than your opposition and you make them look like they’ve never looked before, everybody starts saying: ‘Oh, they were washed’, or ‘this guy’s a bum’, or this guy is this and that guy is that.

And you don’t get the recognition you truly deserve, because you don’t have that machine behind you pushing you to superstardom. Everything I got, I got it through hard work,” Crawford said.

Crawford’s last fight came in September against Canelo Álvarez. Terence won by unanimous decision, becoming the first undisputed world champion in three divisions in the four-belt era.
